Phil Ivey Wins Two Titles at Triton Poker London

Phil Ivey has recently been reminding people why he is considered the GOAT of professional poker. After making two final tables at the 2023 World Series of Poker, Ivey travelled to London to play in the Triton Poker High Roller Series.

Ivey caught fire during the series. He made four final tables, winning two and finishing runner-up in another. He earned over $2 million for the series and re-entered the top 10 of Poker’s All-Time Money List.

Ivey Wins Two Triton Poker London Events

Heading into the Summer, Poker Hall of Famer Phil Ivey was having a less-than-Iveyesque year. He had only a single cash for about $19k. Then at the 2023 World Series of Poker, he made final tables of the $50k Poker Players Championship and the $10k Super Turbo Bounty Event. Ivey carried this momentum into the Triton Poker London Series, where he went on a tear.

Ivey started by making the final table of the $42,400 Mystery Bounty Event. He battled a final table that included Stephen Chidwick, Eric Wasserson, and Daniel Dvoress. Ultimately, it was Ivey battling 2022 WSOP Main Event champion Espen Jorstad. Ivey fell short of the victory, finishing second for $434,900.

A couple of days later, Ivey made the final table of the $63,600 NL Hold’em 7-Handed Event. This time, he didn’t make a run for the title but still earned $363,000 for a sixth-place finish. These finishes were impressive but were just a taste of what was to come.

Ivey made his first seven-figure score of 2023 in the $62,400 NL Turbo Event. He crushed a final table that included Nick Petrangelo and PokerGo founder Cary Katz. Ivey battled Katz heads-up and came out on top for the victory and a $1 million top prize.

This past Thursday, Ivey closed out the series by winning the final event. He took down the $26,500 NL Short Deck Ante Only title for $280,500. This final event had a small yet powerful field of 18 players. The final table included Stephen Chidwick, Daniel Dvoress, Daniel Tang, and Thai Ha.

In recent years, Ivey has enjoyed enormous success in Short Deck NL games and continued that streak in this one. He came out on top after defeating Daniel Tang heads-up. His second title earned him $280,500.

Ivey Vaults Into 10th on Poker’s All-Time Money List

For the series, Phil Ivey earned $2,085,400. This gives him $2.47 million in earnings for the year and moves him up to $40.76 million in career earnings. More importantly, Ivey is now 10th on Poker’s All-Time Money List.

Heading into the Triton Poker London series, Ivey was 14th on the money list. He vaulted over Isaac Haxton, Cary Katz, and Fedor Holz to move back into the top 10 for the first time in years.

At one point in Ivey’s career, he was #1 on the list by a large margin. However, starting in 2011, Ivey had a long string of lacklustre years. In both 2011 and 2017, Ivey didn’t register a single live tournament cash. In 2013 and 2016, Ivey made less than seven figures in poker.

His lack of results was due to various reasons, the biggest being his legal troubles. Ivey battled multiple casinos over edge sorting allegations. He lost both cases and ultimately faced a massive judgment from the Borgata Casino & Hotel in Atlantic City. Ivey finally cleared up his legal issues, and his results have steadily improved.

In 2022, Ivey had the best year of his career in terms of earnings. He earned $5.94 million, including a pair of Triton High Roller Series victories. Approximately $25 million separates Ivey from Bryn Kenney atop the money list. However, Ivey has long been a model of consistency in poker. Now that he is back to his winning ways, it may be just a matter of time before he reclaims the top spot.
